Bahia Honda State Park

The Bahia Honda State Park is located on the Bahia Honda Key, approximately 12 miles west of Marathon Key, FL at Mile Marker 36.8 along the Overseas Highway, US1. The park encompasses over 520 acres in land area. Visitors to the park can enjoy several different activities and things to do. Once at Bahia Honda you can enjoy white sandy beaches, and there are several different beaches around the state park. Some of the various beaches within the park include Sandspur, Calusa Beach and Loggerhead. You will find pavilions for picnics, restrooms and fresh water showers.

Other things to do include bird watching for sea birds, wading birds and shorebirds. At low tide there are large spans of sand flats where the birds like to wade, walk and feed. A few of the different species of birds you may see at the Bahia Honda State Park include Plovers, Great White Herons, Great Blue Herons, Sanderlings, Short-billed Dowitchers, Ruddy Turnstones, Snowy Egrets, White Ibis and Tri-Colored Herons.

Boaters and fishermen can launch their boats at two boat ramps that are in the marina. The marina has nineteen boat slips for day or overnight dockage. You may want to make reservations to ensure you will get a slip. From the park, boaters have quick access to both the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, which opens many different opportunities for fun on the water. There is something for the whole family. You can jetski, windsurf, snorkel, swim or just soak up the sun.

Bahia Honda State Park also has duplex condos, cabins and lodging facilities available. However supply of rental units is limited, so it is important to book well in advance in order to secure your cabin and lodge rentals.

One interesting fact is that it was chosen as the 'Best Beach in America' in 1992.
